Foliage has a weeping nature compared to phormium tenax which grows tall and straight.
Prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Well-draining soil is essential for preventing waterlogged roots. Sandy loam or loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH is ideal.
While relatively drought-tolerant once established, regular watering is necessary, especially during dry periods.
Remove dead or damaged leaves regularly to maintain a tidy appearance. Overgrown clumps can be divided every few years to rejuvenate the plant.
Generally hardy.
Due to its upright and clumping growth habit, it is well-suited for border plantings, creating structure and defining garden spaces.
Phormium cookianum attracts pollinators, contributing to local biodiversity.
