Description
Ophiopogon ‘Hosoba Kukuryu’ grows up to 10-15cm in height. Dense, narrow, arching, strap-like leaves that are deep black in colour, providing an attractive contrast to other plants. It is a slow growing plant , forming clumps over time. Insignificant white to pale lavender flowers may appear in summer.
Ground-hugging, creating a low-maintenance, carpet-like appearance.
Prefers partial to full shade but can tolerate some morning sun. Well-suited for shaded areas in New Zealand gardens. Well-draining soil is essential.
Regular watering, especially during dry periods. Avoid waterlogging, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot.
Occasional removal of dead or damaged foliage. Can be mowed or trimmed if edges of the planting start encroaching onto the lawn but not generally considered invasive due to its slow growth.
Minimal fertilization needs. An application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring can support healthy growth.
Ideal for ground cover in gardens, especially in shaded areas where other plants may struggle. Adds a striking contrast when used as borders or edging along paths or flower beds. Suitable for containers and can be used to create visually appealing potted arrangements. The deep black color of the foliage contrasts well with the greenery of other plants, adding visual interest to the garden.
Plants supplied are in 5cm pots and average 1 to 1.5 years in age.
