Muehlenbeckia complexa ‘Nana’ is a compact and dwarf variety of the native New Zealand plant Muehlenbeckia complexa.

It is characterized by small, densely packed, wiry stems that form a tight, mounding habit. The foliage consists of small, glossy, dark green leaves that contribute to its lush appearance.  Nana’ is a low-growing and spreading plant, typically reaching a height of 20-30 cm with a spread of up to 1 meter.

The compact nature of this selection makes it an excellent ground cover and is often a preferred alternative to the often vigorous Muehlenbeckia complexa.

Well-suited for New Zealand gardens, Muehlenbeckia complexa ‘Nana’ is adaptable to various soil types but thrives in well-draining soils.  It is hardy in coastal areas, tolerating salt spray, and is generally resistant to pests and diseases.

‘Nana’ prefers full sun to partial shade but can tolerate a range of light conditions.  Adequate sunlight is essential for maintaining its dense growth habit and vibrant foliage.

While it is drought-tolerant once established, regular watering is recommended, especially during dry periods. Mulching around the plant helps retain moisture and suppress weed growth.
