Description
20 x Phormium cookianum ‘Emerald Gem’
Phormium Emerald Gem is a compact, dwarf variety of New Zealand flax, featuring striking emerald green, sword-like leaves. This hardy plant grows to approximately 60 cm tall and 70 cm wide, making it perfect for smaller gardens or as a feature in mixed plantings.
Thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates coastal conditions, frost, and poor soils. Sandy loam or loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH is ideal. Generally hardy.
Produces yellow flowers in summer, attracting birds.
Useful for accentuating water features, or mass planting on banks.
While relatively drought-tolerant once established, regular watering is necessary, especially during dry periods.
Remove dead or damaged leaves regularly to maintain a tidy appearance. Overgrown clumps can be divided every few years to rejuvenate the plant.
Plant supplied are in 5cm pots and average 1 – 2 years in age.
