Description
20 x Kunzea robusta Kanuka
Kanuka is a native tree which grows to about 10m tall when fully mature .
It has small, narrow, leaves and white flowers. Needle-like, often resembling those of Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium), but generally larger and softer. Flowers are small, white to pinkish, in clusters which typically appear during spring and summer.
Kanuka is generally a sun-loving plant but can tolerate partial shade.
It is good for revegetation projects as it can grow on dry rugged ground. Well-suited to New Zealand’s temperate climate, thriving in both coastal and inland regions.
Attractive to bees.
Evergreen.
Moderately frost tolerant.
Its dense growth habit and flexible branches make it effective as a windbreak or shelterbelt in gardens, but will eventually grow into a 5m tall tree with most of the leaves at the top if not pruned annually after flowering.
Regular pruning helps maintain a desired shape and encourages bushier growth. Pruning can be done after flowering. Generally hardy, with minimal susceptibility to pests and diseases. Proper spacing and air circulation can further prevent issues.
Plants supplied are in 5cm pots and average 1 year in age.
