Description
20 x Hebe albicans
Hebe albicans is a compact, evergreen native hebe found in the South Island. This small but striking plant typically grows to about 40 cm in height and spreads up to 60-70 cm wide. It features grey-green, egg-shaped leaves that provide a beautiful backdrop for its white flowers, which emerge from pink buds in early summer. The flowers are small but numerous, creating a lovely display that attracts pollinators. It will flower in cooler climates with cold winters and in Auckland gardens it will flower sporadically.
Well-drained, light sandy soil, frost and coastal tolerant
Hebe albicans is an excellent choice for New Zealand gardens, particularly in coastal and dry areas.
Plant it in full sun to semi-shade to ensure the best flowering performance. This shrub is perfect for creating a low-maintenance hedge, a striking specimen plant, or as part of a mixed border.
