Asplenium bulbiferum, commonly known as the Hen and Chicken Fern, is a captivating NZ native fern featuring feathery, deep green fronds. The common name arises from the tiny plantlets which are borne along mature fronds and can develop into separate plants.
This fern to about 30 cm tall and the same wide, preferring a shady, sheltered, and frost-free position with a moist, rich soil.
It is most frequently grown indoors as a potted plant but works equally well outdoors. When grown outdoors, it makes a spectacular display when planted en masse beneath shrubs and trees.
